After you login as a reviewer, click on Submit New Paper in the Author menu. eLANE will ask you to create an author PIN for yourself and then take you through the paper submission steps. Submitting a New Paper
   • Only PDF or MS/Word files can be accepted at this time, with PDF being preferred. Single column format is
     preferred for legibility.
   • All contents of the paper must be placed in a single file.
   • MACINTOSH users uploading WORD files must ensure that the paper is saved with the “.doc” extension.
   • Papers are limited to 12 Transaction pages – If a paper is accepted for publication, the first 9 pages are
published without charge to the authors. There is a $200.00/page mandatory charge for papers exceeding
9 pages. More than 12 pages will only be allowed under special circumstances (requires approval of Editor).
   • After logging on as Author (New or Authorized User), go to the “Submit Paper” function. Fill in the paper title,
authors, affiliations, and the approximate word count and number of figures. To upload a paper to eLANE
click on the “Upload/Browse” button. A window will open up to allow you to navigate your files and select
the one you want to upload.
Special Issues: For new papers, authors can indicate that the paper is for a special issue. Active special issue lists can be seen and selected by scrolling down in the paper submit form.
IMPORTANT
Once a paper has been submitted, it cannot be changed. Changes in uploaded papers are only reflected on your own local machine – they are not reflected in the eLANE database. If you discover a mistake after submitting your paper, please request to withdraw that paper and restart the process.

Resubmission of Revised Paper
A previously submitted paper that has been reviewed and placed under the category of “Major Revisions Required” may be resubmitted after making the necessary changes. Resubmission must occur within 2 months from the date of the decision. After that period, it must be submitted as a new paper. Login and go to “Author Function,” “Resubmit Paper.” You don’t need to remember the Paper Number; just go to “Check Status” after logging in. This will list all papers you have submitted to this journal that are still in the active database. The "Resubmit" button will appear for papers eligible for resubmission.
Authors of revised papers (Cycle 2) can attach a separate document (Word or PDF) called "Response to Reviews" that contains a description of changes made and responses to reviewer comments from Cycle 1.
At resubmit of revised paper or manuscript submit, authors can change the paper title, number of words, figures, or co-author list.

Acknowledgement of Receipt
The Technical Editor will send the corresponding author an e-mail when s/he has assigned an Associate Editor to handle the paper.

Checking Status of Your Paper
Authors can find the status of their papers via eLANE. Go to Author Functions, “Check Status.” You can see all actions related to your paper, including how many reviews have been received and when. The contents of the reviews, however, can only be viewed after a decision has been made. When reviews become viewable by authors, you can either print them or save them on your own computer. Once a registered Author is logged on, s/he can check the status of any of their previously submitted papers, submit a new paper, resubmit a revised paper, upload final manuscript files, withdraw a paper, or download reviews if and when they become available.

Submitting Final Manuscripts
Authors of accepted papers can submit final manuscript documents to eLANE. These include:
   1. An editable text file (Word or Latex) containing text only, including References, but no figures.
Tables without graphics can be included. Also a List of Figures and Tables should be included
       in the Text File.
   2. A single zip file that contains all the figures/graphics saved individually. First put each figure in a
separate file and name them Fig1, Fig2, ... etc. Acceptable formats are TIFF, PS, EPS (Postscript).
Then ZIP all figure files into a single file and upload to eLane. It is best to make the figures
the same size as you would want to see in the final printed paper. If figures are in multiple
files (labeled by figure number) put them in a single ZIP file. If a figure needs to be lined up
with multiple parts, for example, (A), (B), (C), (D), then it MUST be sent as one file.
Tables may be included in the figure file.
   3. A print file with both text and figures (PDF) which MUST contain text, tables, and figures
       in proper places.
   4. Optional: A list of changes made to the final manuscript (Word/PDF)

Go to Author/"Check Status" and click on "Submit Manuscript" button in the list of your papers.
   1. When submitting the final manuscript, authors are walked through download of Form 1903
(Copyright Transfer). You must printout the copyright transfer form (1903), get it signed
by all authors and fax directly to Tara Smith at ASME (212-591-7292). The manuscript
will not be processed without this.
   2. When uploading the final manuscript, authors can change the paper title, number of words,
       figures, co-author list.
   3. Authors can submit a list of changes/response as a separate file when uploading the manuscript.
   4. Authors must agree to pay excess page charges, if applicable. For more information go to:
        http://asudesign.eas.asu.edu/links/journal/
   5. Authors need to inform us which figures are to be printed in color in the paper version. For
       more information go to: http://asudesign.eas.asu.edu/links/journal/

Authors can view final manuscript documents from the "Check Status" function.

Withdrawing a Paper
Authors can request the Editor to withdraw a paper as follows:
Go to Author/Check Status and click on the Withdraw button (visible only if the paper is in active review). An e-mail message to the editor will be generated. Insert reasons for withdrawal. Remember that authors agree to certain conditions before submitting a paper. Therefore, withdrawal request must be approved by the Editor. If approved, the author will get e-mail to that effect. Copies will be sent to the AE and any assigned reviewers. The review process will be stopped and the paper removed from the active database.
